How to tune up a used car

Vehicles produced before about 1980s generally have simple ignition systems that can be maintained by local mechanics. The following steps can help you to maximize power, decrease fuel consumption and decrease the probability of overheating.

The first point you should start with is cleaning engine. Use a marker to number  the spark plug leads if they have not been yet. You will be able to wipe it off later if you want.

Grip each spark plug lead at the plug end as close to the engine as possible  and pull it straight out. In such way you will prevent  the connector from damaging. Do not forget to use an appropriate spark plug wrench to weaken every spark plug and remove them out.

Control the spark plugs. Do not re-use the electrodes and the insulators if they are strongly rounded off or damaged.

The plugs should be scratched with a wire brush and then rinsed with kerosene or petrol and afterwards to be set to dry if you want to re-use.

Examine the distributor cap’s interior  for moisture,  cracks, carbon tracks and dirt. If you find any carbon tracks or cracks, you should replace the cap.

After removing the ignition points check them for rust and precipitates. If  pitting is slight it is normal and you  may dress it  off with a file. Then you can re-use the points.

Search the centrifugal ignition advance weights. You can see them below the baseplate. Give them a light push with a screwdriver to be sure they have not stuck up. There you can see  a hole marked “Oil” to grease them. Several drops of engine oil will be enough. If there is any oil spillage wipe it  up.

Substitute the points on the baseplate with washers in the proper  places. Then  the screws should be put in tightly but you should not tighten them fully yet.

The next step is to rotate the motor clockwise with the spark plugs out.

Install a feeler gauge to the right points gap and wipe it perfectly. After placing in the gap of the points you should  tighten the points screws. If the gap is not correct you should do it once again until it is correct.

How to plasti dip a car

You are recommended to put on  eye protection and a mask.

It is very significant for the first layer to be a light dusting because this layer is the bonding one. That  means it will be a 50 -60% transparence. This will let the next layers stick to the paint. Plasti dip should dry approximately15-30 minutes  before applying the next layer

Then apply some more layers. The more layers the more  longevity of plasti dip. In the whole the amount of layers is 4 or 5.

After the last layer is added, instantly remove all painter’s tape that you  have used to protect areas from being covered with plasti dip. You should do  before the substance dries.

Then you will need about 4 hours to wait until plasti dip fully cure.

You can also use plasti dip for applying on  car accessories.

If you want to plasti dip rims, the cleanest and easiest way is to remove the wheels from the vehicle. Find out instructions on how to remove wheels from your BMW X5, Dodge, Hundai or Audi and follow them properly. It is fully voluntary to coat the wheels’ rubber since plasti dip is simply removable.
